Flip (FlipGrid)

This post is about a tool used by many educators called Flip, formally known as FlipGrid. This is a tool from Doctor Wang’s PPT about the previous T3PP results, found in the technologies table. This technology allows teachers and students to communicate using video.

This technology connects to the Venn diagram in the TLC framework because Flip is one of the ways to communicate in relation to learning and teaching. Flip allows an opportunity for teachers to communicate with students so that effective learning can occur. In addition, educators can use Flip to communicate with parents, and students can use this platform to communicate with teachers.

Teachers can create videos that incorporate accompanying text that students respond to. These videos created by teachers and shared with students are referred to as “topics.” Teachers can create a virtual classroom for each of their classes. Students can access the class and videos through a link or access code that the teacher will send to the students. Click here to access an example class I have created

Flip offers a unique capacity for differentiation for visual learners and students that are deaf and/or hard of hearing by incorporating visual media as the primary means for communication. Flip (FlipGrid) offers lots of lessons and activities that teachers can adapt to the needs of their classes. In addition, Flip can be used for instruction in so many ways! Check out a list of the versatility of Flip in the image below.

Flip helps create a strong sense of confidence and community in the classroom. In addition, this tool promotes student engagement by incorporating different forms of media in learning. Flip is very easy to set up, navigate, and use. I think both students and educators would have a relatively easy time using this technology for educational purposes. In addition, Flip is very versatile and, therefore, this is not an area of weakness for this technology. Lastly, there is a high likelihood of this technology being used and incorporated in the instruction of my future classes. From my exploration of this tool, I can see myself using this technology for educational purposes.
