Wix

Wix is a tool of my own interest from the TLC: C (communication) list. Wix is a website that allows individuals to build their own website. This tool can be used by teachers to build a classroom website for example, or by students to complete an interactive assignment.

Wix Education is a free resource for schools, teachers, students, and parents. Check out Wix education to create an account and/or learn more by clicking here.

Below is an example of a classroom website created with Wix.

If I was going to use this site, I would create an assignment where students are required to create their own website using Wix about their favorite author or novel within a specific genre. Because the students are creating their own project, I would categorize this use of Wix as CA (creative, amplifies) in the PICRAT model. I would say it is likely I will find a way to use this site. I would like to create classroom websites for my classes when I teach high school and/or middle school ELA.

As a student in my college course I was asked to create a website using Wix, and it was a great way to learn about this site and technology. To see the website I created for my class, click here. Because I enjoyed this assignment, I would potentially modify it and do something similar in my future classes.

One of the benefits of Wix is that you can create good websites without paying for a membership. It is cost effective in this way.

I feel that the versatility of Wix is good, but could be better. It is not a pitfall, but it is not the best feature of this tool. In my experience, it was a bit difficult using Wix to build a website, but that could have been because it was completely new to me, and I had never created a blog or website before I did for my course. Therefore, the ease of use did not impress me, but there were some factors for me that could have influenced this. Overall, I would say it is likely I will use this tool in my future classes.
